I Need a Vacation....

I need a vacation...wait a minute, I just got back from vacation! This weekend we went to my husbands version of Shangri-La.... Cabela's! We drove for something like 7 hours (with a few stops and rests along the way) and finally arrived in Scarborough Maine, just outside of Portland.

My DH then spent the next 4 and a half hours wondering aimlessly around the store, filling his shopping cart as he went. Me, I spent most of my time taking pictures of all the stuffed animals, resting in the cafe, resting in the car and searching for DH.

This is the mountain in the middle of the store. It was the North American section of animals and there was another Safari section too.A couple of mule deer fighting on the mountain! It really was amazing, but like I said, I now need a vacation from my vacation!

Bird Watching!

While I was watching the birds at the feeder today, I noticed I wasn't the only one watching! Frosty was looking for a quick meal, but luckily he decided it wasn't worth the effort and went back to his food dish for some easier pickings!

April Springs Hat

Lately for some reason it is taking an awful long time to get anything accomplished! I've been working on lots of projects, but nothing seems to want to come together. I took a bunch of pictures today of April Springs Hat, but the ones of me wearing it did not turn out. However, I did promise a larger picture of the hat, so here it is! More to come...eventually!

Creative Weekend

I've been MIA from the computer lately and becoming at one with my crochet hook again. This also helps me whittle down that yarn stash. Remember, I'm not allowed to buy any more yarn until I get that stash worn down!
This is a hat I made for a friend and loved the way it turned out so I'm now in the midst of writing the pattern. I'm thinking of calling it "April Springs".This is another version of a ruffled purse made from some of that Christmas yarn my mother-in-law gave me. The colour doesn't really show up well here, but it reminded me of the skin of a peach with yellows, golds and reds, very pretty.
Another April Springs hat. Hopefully the lighting will be good tomorrow and I can take full pictures of these hats to show you. The pattern should be going up on Etsy at the end of the week for the hats, and the purse pattern has been stalled until I feel the muse strike me again!

Mom's Deer

It's snowing again .... But look at the picture my Mom took today of her little "friend" in her garden. This little fellow has been hanging around her garden, or I should say what's left of her garden, since fall. He (?) has a sore leg that keeps him very close to the house...where the feeding is good I guess. My parents house is surrounded on all sides by woods, but I guess the garden plants just taste better!

They're Baaack!

I think I'm burned out, or have cabin fever, or as my husband says I'm "shack wacky". This winter seems really long and is predicted to be even longer with most of March being snowy and cold. Having a sore knee has kept me in the house and I haven't really even been able to exercise....yes, you can actually miss it if you can't do it!However, looking on the bright side....okay I'm looking ....looking ....looking ....oh, there it is! The Bald Eagles are starting to return for the Spring! Over the past few years we are getting more and more Bald Eagles in Southern New Brunswick and, lucky me, they seem to enjoy the creek that is below my house. The above is a view from the back of my house. We had a lot of rain on the weekend and the creek overflowed some, but in the centre of the picture there is a black spot. That's one of the immature eagles! There is another one just on the edge of the creek bed too.

This is a zoomed in picture of three of the immature eagles (there were six all together). They don't have the white heads right now, but they will soon. Lately I've seen two mature eagles flying over the house with their white heads gleaming. Simply stunning and what a gift to see them!

Enough is Enough

So I'm just about fed up with all this snow! Today was the 11th storm of the year and last night's storm was our first blizzard. See those posts? Fastened to them is a fence that is exactly 4 feet tall. Hard to believe!
This is the greenhouse that I took a picture of a few posts back. It's not even recognizable right now!
If you look close you can see why the power goes off all the time. Look at the second wire...see how the branches are weighing it down? Luckily this is only the phone wire, but during ice storms the main power lines take a real beating.
This is my Dad plowing us out...again. The snowbank in front of the house is over the height of the roof. We can't even get to the front door that way any more. AND guess what? It's snowing again! Sigh.....

I'm Dreaming of Spring!

I've been dreaming of Spring to come early this year, but I don't think that will happen, so I've been making felted sheep instead!Silly Sheep! I can't stop them from forming cheer leading pyramids!
This is Daisy. She's a real go getter, loves long walks on the beach and strawberry ice cream! Although judging from her size she should probably lay off the ice cream! She's looking for warmer greener pastures and is also tired of these Canadian winters! I'm going to help her write up her Etsy listing latter today.
Now I'd like to introduce you to Baa Baa Black Sheep. He likes to be called Baa Baa for short. Baa Baa is also looking for a new home but he's very shy and wants me to do his Etsy write up. He loves to snuggle up in front of the fire and read a good book and he's a great listener.
This is Arabella. Arabella is very intelligent, for a sheep, and already has her listing on Etsy. You can see her profile by clicking here.
Now this poor little rabbit was so lonely that she was the only rabbit that she sneaked into my roving stash and put on a sheep's coat! I tried to convince her that it was okay to be the only rabbit, but she really loves her wool coat! Silly rabbit!
Everybody is made out of 100% wool from Briggs and Little, the oldest woolen mill in Canada that is located right here in New Brunswick!

After the Storm

The storm has ended and look who came out for some breakfast at my parents place! There were at least two more deer on each side of the picture.
Right now Mom likes them, but when spring comes and all her roses, hedges and what not's are chewed, she my think differently! For now we consider them Nature's Gift. Photos by Mom!

More Snow....sigh....

As I'm reading other people blogs about snowdrops and Spring starting to arrive, I look out the window and sigh. As I write this we are into the first few hours of another winter storm. See the above picture? That's the same greenhouse that I blogged about in the last entry. Sigh....
